1. News Story
News
style (also journalistic style or news writing style) is the prose style used
for news reporting in media such as newspapers, radio and television. News
style encompasses not only vocabulary and sentence structure, but also the way
in which stories present the information in terms of relative importance, tone,
and intended audience.
News
writing attempts to answer all the basic questions about any particular event -
who, what, when, where and why (the Five Ws) and also often how - at the
opening of the article. This form of structure is sometimes called the
"inverted pyramid", to refer to the decreasing importance of
information in subsequent paragraphs :
Headline :
Your headline for the news story must be attractive and eye-catching.
Place : The
name of the place, where the story occurred or is filed from, must be
written.
Date : You
must mention the date of your story.
Source : The
source must be clearly written i.e. who gave you or where did you get the story
from?
Body : The
first sentence of the body generally describes the headline. Other
sentences must give the
background and detail for the headline. The language
must be simple and
grammatically correct.

Bus Accident in Nepal Claims 30 Lives
Devraj Subedi
July 25, 2024
In a
tragic accident, a passenger bus veered off a mountainous road in Nepal’s
Sindhupalchok district early this morning, resulting in the deaths of 30 people
and injuring dozens more.
The
bus, carrying over 50 passengers, was traveling from Kathmandu to the remote
village of Bahrabise when it skidded off the narrow road and plunged into a
ravine. Rescue operations have been underway since dawn, with emergency
services and local volunteers working tirelessly to retrieve bodies and provide
medical assistance to the injured.
"This
is a heartbreaking incident. Our prayers and thoughts are with the families of
the victims," said Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli in a press statement. He
also assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the
cause of the accident.
Witnesses
reported that the bus appeared to be speeding and struggling to navigate the
sharp turns on the mountainous route. Initial reports suggest that the driver
may have lost control of the vehicle due to a brake failure.
The
challenging terrain and poor road conditions in many parts of Nepal often
contribute to such accidents, making travel in these regions particularly
hazardous. This latest tragedy has sparked renewed calls for improvements in
road safety and infrastructure across the country.
The
Sindhupalchok district police have confirmed that the injured passengers have
been transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, and the identities of the
deceased are being verified. Meanwhile, grieving families and community members
have gathered at the crash site, mourning their loss.
As
Nepal mourns the loss of these lives, the government has declared a day of
national mourning. The Ministry of Transport has also announced that it will be
inspecting buses and other public transportation vehicles for safety
compliance.

Chief District Officer of Chitwan,

5. Plane
crash at Nepal's Kathmandu airport kills 18; captain survives
By Reuters
KATHMANDU, July 24 (Reuters) - A small passenger plane
belonging to Nepal's Saurya Airlines crashed and caught fire while taking off
from the capital Kathmandu on Wednesday, killing 18 people on board and leaving
one survivor, the captain, officials said.
"Only the captain was rescued alive and is receiving
treatment at a hospital," said Tej Bahadur Poudyal, spokesman for
Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport.
The 50-seater plane, carrying two crew members and 17
technicians, was heading for regular maintenance to Nepal's new Pokhara
airport, which is equipped with aircraft maintenance hangars, the officials
said.
Eighteen of those on board the CRJ-200 aircraft were Nepali
citizens, with one engineer from Yemen, Saurya said.
"Shortly after takeoff ... the aircraft veered off to
the right and crashed on the east side of the runway," the Civil Aviation
Authority of Nepal said in a statement.
The crash again focused attention on the poor air safety
record of the impoverished, landlocked Himalayan nation that is wedged between
India and China and is heavily dependent upon air connectivity due to its
limited road network.
Nearly 360 people have died in
plane or helicopter crashes in
the country since 2000.
Nepal's prime minister, K.P. Sharma Oli, visited the crash
site and asked people to "be patient" in a social media post, without
elaborating.
An emergency cabinet meeting was called to form a panel to
investigate the incident, a government spokesman said.

Wednesday’s crash and was being treated in hospital, the Civil Aviation
Authority of Nepal said in a statement.
Nineteen people were on the test flight
conducted by the domestic carrier Saurya Airlines, including technical staff
members and two crew members.
The incident took place right after the
11:11am (05:26 GMT) takeoff of the 50-seat Bombardier CRJ200, the aviation
authority said. The plane then turned right and crashed into the eastern
section of the airport, the statement said. It was on its way to the resort
town of of Pokhara. The cause of the crash is being investigated.
A doctor at Kathmandu Medical College
Hospital told The Associated Press news agency that the pilot had suffered
injuries to the eyes “but is not in any danger”.
Eighteen Nepalis, including one child, and a
Yemeni national were on the plane, the aviation authority confirmed.
